This is the largest box I’ve made yet. It’s in 6mm poplar ply which doesn’t have the beautiful grain of the birch I often use, so I stained it black. The stain is thinned with the Osmo wax/oil finish I use. Some parts of the wood’s grain are more absorbent than others which brings out the grain pattern. Before staining, the grain was almost invisible, applying the stain was like watching an chemical photographic print develop. (Don’t worry if you don’t know what that means :-).
As usual, the box features my unique hinges. It is lined with black “Macrosuede”, a hard wearing synthetic fabric. The box is for sale in my shop.
